35 Items Everyone Will Be Looking For After The Collapse

If you’re prepping for a societal collapse, SHTF, or TEOTWAWKI, you’ve probably already got the basics covered. You might already have lots of standard preps such as lighters, generators, and freeze-dried food on hand.

But there are plenty of other items that could be hard to find when supply chains get interrupted. Stock up on these items to use or barter when people are desperate to find them.

1. Aluminum Foil – You can use it for cooking, baking, reflecting light, and making a funnel, just to name a few of the many uses.

2. Baby and Child Supplies – It’s amazing how many diapers and wipes you can go through in a year. So consider keeping things like diapers, wipes, ointments, baby bottles, and formula around. Baby formula may be difficult to get and is an excellent tool for trade.

3. Baking Supplies Such As Yeast – When supply chains get interrupted, baking supplies can be hard to find. Try to stock up on baking items that will last. You may need yeast to make bread, although there are ways to make bread without yeast or even grow your own yeast.

4. Batteries – Keep an ample supply of batteries on hand because you might not be able to get them in an emergency. You’ll especially want to have batteries on hand for your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors so you can keep your family safe from potential disasters.

5. Bikes – When supply chains get disrupted, bikes and bike parts become scarce. But bikes can be a necessary form of transportation, entertainment, and recreation. Not to mention they double as a quiet bug-out vehicle. Ensure you have bikes in good working order and stock up on spare parts and bicycle repair books.

6. Board Games and Decks of Cards – Don’t underestimate the value of entertainment to keep everyone’s spirits up. Board games, cards, books, and even a radio can help.

7. Bug Spray – Prevent tick bites, mosquito bites, and other bug bites that can spread dangerous diseases.

8. Canning Supplies – Canning supplies can be difficult to find under normal circumstances, but it may become downright impossible when the world falls apart. Make sure you have enough canning supplies available to you to preserve enough food for your family. Also, consider options such as reusable canning lids.

9. Coffee and Coffee Filters – You really can’t have too many coffee filters, considering they have so many uses! Because coffee is imported to the United States, you won’t be able to get it if the borders close or supply chains shut down. But people love coffee, so even if you don’t drink it, you might want to have some around for bartering purposes.

10. Condiments – Food fatigue is a real thing, especially if you’re eating the same things over and over. Stock up on condiments that will make meals more interesting because sauces and flavorings might be hard to come by.

11. Contraceptives – A natural disaster might not be the best time to conceive, so make sure your contraception needs are more than covered. You may want to keep extra for bartering.

12. Dental Hygiene – You might not be visiting the dentist during a disaster, but you still need to take care of your teeth. Make sure you have extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, dental floss, and dental repair kits.

13. Deodorant – Deodorant and other hygiene items will be nice and even critical during SHTF, especially if you’re living in close quarters.

14. Eye Glasses – Prescription eyeglasses might be impossible to get, so stock up on those as well inexpensive readers, which can double as a magnifying glass.

15. Feminine Hygiene Products – Tampons and pads might get scarce during SHTF. Keep enough on hand for all of the lady needs in your home, but make sure you have plenty of extras, too! You may want to consider keeping some reusable products on hand, as well.

16. Fire Extinguishers – What if a fire truck isn’t available or emergency services are down? You’ll need extra fire extinguishers to put out fires to save your home and family.

17. Fishing Line – Fishing line has lots of survival uses apart from the obvious. You can use it to fix clothes, make a garden trellis, repair items, hang things, set traps, and make crafts.

18. Fragrances – You might not think of perfume as a hot commodity during TEOTWAWKI, but it will be difficult to come by and will make a great tool for bartering and disguising offensive odors.

19. Garbage Bags – Not just for garbage, you can use them for many things such as dry bags, tarps, and even emergency shelters if necessary.

20. Gloves – Our hands need protection from weather, blisters, grease, diseases, and moisture. Stock up on all kinds of gloves to keep your hands healthy.

21. Hair Care – You might not think of hair care as necessary for survival, but you’ll need to keep your locks under control somehow, especially if you have children with long hair. Consider items such as hair cutting scissors, hair ties, headbands, and clips to keep hair out of your way when you’re working.

22. Hearing Aids and Hearing Aid Batteries – Hearing is essential to survival, and hearing aid batteries don’t last long. You’ll need to have more on hand than you might think.

23. Heirloom Seeds – If you’re going to save seeds, the best kind to use are heirloom seeds, and they can be tough to get during disasters and national emergencies. If you can, purchase survival kits with heirloom seeds. They are specially designed to have a long shelf life.

24. Maple Syrup – If you can’t make your own maple syrup, you may want to stock up before a societal collapse. Unopened, maple syrup has a long shelf life. It supplies vitamins and minerals and offers a healthier alternative to sugar.

25. Rat Poison and Pest Control – Pests multiply quickly and can carry disease, so keep them at bay to protect your family when society falls apart.  It’s better to be proactive with rodents because they multiply and can quickly get out of control.

26. Sewing Supplies – Even if you don’t sew, you might need to make repairs or learn to make your own clothes. If society collapses, you probably won’t be able to run to the craft store for supplies. Keep plenty of needles and thread on hand.

27. Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Alarms – These alarms can be life-savers, so make sure you have plenty on hand to keep you and your family safe.

28. Soap – You’ll need laundry soap, dish soap, hand soap, shower soap, and shampoo. Hygiene is even more critical during emergencies and gets sold out quickly when disasters happen.

29. Spices – Any imported food might be too hard to find or too expensive to buy, including spices like turmeric and vanilla.

30. Stationery Supplies – You might need pens, paper, pencils, crayons, and markers to write notes, send messages, and make signs.

31. Steel Wool – Steel wool can be used to remove rust, clean dishes, and start fires. You can fill up holes with steel wool to prevent rodents from entering your home or barn.

32. Vaseline – Vaseline can be used for everything from first aid to hygiene to fire starting and equipment repair.

33. Vitamins – In an SHTF situation, you may not get a good balance of nutrients from your diet. Taking vitamin supplements can help balance out the nutritional deficiencies, so stock up before an emergency because they may be challenging to find after.

34. Water Filters – If you don’t have a water filtration system before SHTF, you might not be able to get one. Stock up on things like Berkey filters, LifeStraws, and backpacking water filters to keep your family safe from unpotable water.

35. Zip Ties – Excellent for repairs, self-defense, building projects, and bartering. Keep a variety of sizes and types on hand for all kinds of projects.
